The moment a person who was stuck in quicksand was rescued off the Welsh coast was caught on camera. Lifeboats and a helicopter were sent to the scene to stop the person sinking as the tide came rapidly in at Rhyl. The drama unfolded at 9pm on Friday, May 29, after the Rhyl RNLI volunteer crew were called to a casualty in the water and they launched the charity’s inshore lifeboat immediately. As they headed towards the person stuck in the quicksand the crew received a message from the coastguard that the tide had reached waist height and teams from Rhyl Coastguard Rescue and the helicopter had been dispatched. With the lifeboat approaching the casualty said to the crew: "I'm sinking." The crew placed them in a lifejacket and supported them onto their back, which enabled their feet to be freed from the quicksand. They were then brought back to the lifeboat station where they were able to warm up.
