By KYLIE STEVENS, SENIOR BREAKING NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 23:19, 9 July 2026 | Updated: 23:21, 9 July 2026 The father of a Perth schoolgirl allegedly shot dead by police while holidaying in Pakistan after the family were mistaken for robbers has claimed that he was forced to sign a blank document before he could receive medical treatment. Hania Ahmad, 9, was travelling through Chakwal in Punjab with her father Adeel Ahmed, mother Dr Sidra Khan and brother Aafan while holidaying in the region to visit relatives on June 10. The family, who are from the Perth suburb of Kewdale, were confronted by two robbers as they arrived at a relative's home. The robbers demanded jewellery and the family handed over about $7,500 worth of their belongings, relatives told local media. A police officer exchanged fire with the suspects before the pair fled on a motorcycle. As the terrified family drove away in their rental car, more Crime Control Department police officers arrived and opened fire, mistakenly believing it was the robbers' getaway vehicle. Hania was killed, while her father and brother were wounded and later underwent surgery. Her mother was uninjured. The local district police office has launched a ‘fact-finding inquiry’ after Mr Ahmad lodged a formal complaint with the authorities. Adeel Ahmad that alleged that he was forced by police to officers made him sign a blank document before he could receive hospital treatment following the death of his daughter Hania Perth schoolgirl Hania Ahmad, 9, had been holidaying in Pakistan with her family Police opened fire on the family's rental car (pictured after the fatal shooting), mistakenly believing it was the robbers' getaway vehicle Mr Adeel alleged that authorities had incorrect information in their initial report. The grieving father has also alleged that after being shot, he was pressured by police to provide a signature and fingerprint on a blank document before he could receive hospital treatment. 'After doing so, both of them pressured and coerced the applicant into putting his signatures and thumb impressions on a blank piece of paper, threatening that only then would medical aid be provided and a doctor allowed to see them,' the document, seen by Pakistani media outlet Dawn, read. Pakistani Association of WA vice president Ali Mardan Shah said that Mr Ahmad was forced into a tough position. 'Adeel had no option to sign it because he lost his beautiful daughter and also his son, who was a young kid, was in a life and death situation,' he told Nine News. Mr Ahmad previously refuted police claims that it was the robbers who opened fire first. 'Firing was started by [police] at first, not by thieves,' he told SBS Urdu. 'CCD [Crime Control Department] personnel chased us and fired at us. They were chasing our car.' The family, who are from the Perth suburb of Kewdale, were confronted by two robbers as they arrived at a relative's home Adeel Ahmad (pictured with Hania) had previously refuted police claims that the robbers opened fire first The investigation into Hania's death is ongoing.  Punjab Police revealed last month that the officer who allegedly opened fire was charged with murder, describing their actions as a 'grave deviation' from the force's conduct.  The officer was also suspended from the force. University of Centre for Muslim States and Societies director Professor Emerita Samina Yasmeen hopes that the Pakistan government will take serious action. 'They are indicating that they would but we have to see whether it translates into reality,' she told Nine News. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also demanded answers. 'They need to be examined in a transparent way, so that everyone can know, the family, most importantly, but others as well,' he told reporters last month. 'Australia expects there to be transparency and a proper investigation of these circumstances.' The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade continues to help the family navigate the tragedy.
