World Cup hopeful accused of raping boy, 14 as court date set

A footballer has been accused of repeatedly raping a 14-year-old boy and sending him nude pictures of herself. Oteta Kristina Kitiona, 20, allegedly had sex with the teenager in Utah in 2024 when she was 19-years-old. Kitiona, who played in Samoa’s 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup unsuccessful qualifying squad earlier this year, has been accused of abusing the boy multiple times over a six-month period. According to court documents, the abuse occurred before the footballer went to college. He told the police she would visit his house “two to three times a week” to have sex with him between June and October 2024. The documents state that the alleged “relationship” halted after she headed to Bellevue College in Washington state but the pair rekindled when she returned home a month later. During this gap, Kitiona allegedly sent the boy explicit photos and videos where he claims she was “head to toe clean, naked.” The court documents also state that she allegedly encouraged him to send over nude images of himself, including when he was in the shower. The age of consent in Utah is 18-years-old. Kitiona was delivered the charges two months after she played for the Samoan national women’s football team during their World Cup qualifying campaign in February. She has been charged with distributing material harmful to a minor and three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor while under the age of 21. Kitiona is due to appear in court on June 6.
