Sports Memorabilia and Collectibles Bo Jackson's autographed Tecmo Super Bowl insert in 2025 Topps Chrome Football. Photo courtesy of Topps Share full articleFanatics Collectibles CEO Mike Mahan doesn’t hide his love for the Tecmo Bowl video games, the iconic late 1980s and early ’90s football arcade and Nintendo games. He’s even willing to participate in any impromptu tournaments at any point against all comers. Of course his challenge led a recent interview with The Athletic down nostalgia lane for the middle-aged participants last week. So it’s no wonder Mahan could barely hold in his excitement for one of the newest insert card subsets to be included in 2025 Topps Chrome Football, the first licensed NFL trading card product from Topps (owned by Fanatics) in more than a decade. Tecmo Super Bowl themed insert cards will be included in Chrome with the design inspired by the iconic touchdown celebration screen from the 1991 game, which was the first video game to be licensed by both the NFL and the NFL Players Association. The checklist will include 30 former players, including Bo Jackson, John Elway and Joe Montana, along with 10 current players, including Josh Allen, Jayden Daniels, Jaxson Dart, Saquon Barkley and Cam Ward. These cards will be case hits (with one appearing in roughly every 12 hobby boxes or more) and have both white-ink autographed and non-autographed versions available within the set. A post shared by Topps (@topps) It’s another unique insert series in the Chrome set, which already includes arguably the company’s most important and rarest insert offerings: The NFL version of the famed MLB Rookie Debut patch autographed cards. The one-of-one Topps Rookie PREM1ERE patch autographed cards will appear in 2025 Topps Chrome Football. Members of the 2025 NFL Draft class wore the PREM1ERE patch on their jersey during their first NFL regular season appearance last season. The patch was then removed and placed into a rookie card unlike any other. Chrome will also bear one-of-one NFL Honors gold shield patch autographed cards from the 2024 league award winners for MVP (Allen), Offensive Player of the Year (Barkley), Defensive Player of the Year (Patrick Surtain II) and Offensive Rookie of the Year (Daniels) and Defensive Rookie of the Year (Jared Verse). The NFL award winners wore gold NFL shield patches on their jerseys throughout the 2025 season. Some of those patches were removed and placed within cards. This follows the same playbook Topps has implemented with MLB and NBA Gold Logoman cards for award winners. The latest Topps inserts aren’t the only Tecmo Bowl themed cards on the market, though. The Bo Jackson Battle Arena card game brand recently produced a Tecmo Bowl edition. Topps has also featured retro video game themed inserts in previous sports card offerings, like the 8 Bit Ballers and 8 Bit Shots inserts. const eBayApiUrl="https://api.theathletic.com"; The Athletic maintains full editorial independence in all our coverage.
