The Syrian Ministry of Interior said it has begun the necessary investigations and is pursuing those involved in the attack on the UAE embassy in Damascus and on the guards assigned to protect it, while legal measures are being taken against them in accordance with the law.

The embassy witnessed an attempted storming during a protest organized by some Syrians in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons. Protesters also raised the Palestinian flag above the building on April 3.

In a statement published today, Sunday, April 5, the Ministry of Interior said peaceful protest is a legitimate right guaranteed by law as a form of freedom of expression, provided it remains within legal frameworks and does not lose its peaceful character.

Against that backdrop, the ministry said the assault on the UAE embassy in Damascus during the protest was condemned and rejected, describing it as a clear violation of national laws.

According to the ministry, such actions will be met with strict legal measures. Internal security units have also reinforced security around diplomatic missions and tightened protection to ensure their safety and prevent similar incidents from happening again.

The ministry also called on citizens to abide by the law and act responsibly in a way that preserves public security, citizens’ dignity, and the country’s sovereignty.

Syrian foreign ministry rejects the attack

Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed its “firm and steadfast position rejecting any attack on, or attempt to approach, accredited embassies and diplomatic premises in the Syrian Arab Republic.”

In its statement issued on April 4, the ministry stressed that such premises are “protected under international law and diplomatic conventions, and represent a symbol of relations between states and peoples.”

It also expressed its “categorical rejection and condemnation of any slogans or actions offensive to states or harmful to their symbols,” stressing that such behavior “contradicts the principles of mutual respect and international cooperation.”

While affirming citizens’ right to express their views, the ministry stressed the importance of exercising that right “within the framework of applicable laws and regulations,” while fully preserving public security and avoiding any practices that could undermine stability or target embassies and diplomatic premises.

UAE condemns the incident

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as “rioting, attempted vandalism, and assaults” targeting its diplomatic mission and the residence of the head of mission in the Syrian capital.

In its statement issued on April 4, the UAE foreign ministry also said it rejects and denounces “unacceptable abuse directed at the state’s national symbols.”

The UAE called on “the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic to fulfill its duties in securing the embassy and its staff, and to investigate the circumstances surrounding these attacks.”

It also demanded guarantees that such incidents would not be repeated in the future, and called for all necessary legal measures to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

The UAE foreign ministry stressed the country’s categorical rejection of such acts of vandalism, underscoring the need to protect diplomatic premises, missions, and their staff in accordance with international laws and norms, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Gulf states condemn attack

Gulf reactions continued to follow the “attacks” and attempted storming of the UAE embassy in Damascus during the protest organized by some Syrians in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons on April 3.

The latest condemnation came from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which denounced what it described as “rioting, assaults, and attempted vandalism targeting the UAE embassy and the residence of its head of mission in the Syrian capital, Damascus, in addition to unacceptable abuse directed at UAE national symbols.”

In its statement issued today, Sunday, April 5, the ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of these attacks and of all forms of violence against diplomats, stressing the need to provide protection for diplomats and diplomatic missions in compliance with relevant international laws and conventions.

Saudi Arabia’s position was preceded by similar statements from Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

All Gulf parties expressed condemnation and denunciation of the attempted embassy storming, while stressing the need to hold those responsible accountable and prevent such incidents from recurring.

In the same context, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it supports Syria’s security and stability, as well as the measures it is taking to hold those involved accountable, in a way that preserves brotherly relations between the two countries and contributes to strengthening regional security and stability.
