The Nifty 50 rose 1.49% to 24,198.30 and the Sensex added 1.52% to 78,009.81, as of 9:45 am IST. Amid the rising expectations for a resumption of US-Iran peace negotiations, other Asian markets too gained 1.7%. This comes after the markets turned volatile last week following the collapse of US-Iran truce talks in Islamabad. Markets became favorable on Wednesday as tensions between US-Israel and Iran were seen to be easing, with all 16 major sectors experiencing gains. The broader small-caps and mid-caps gained 2% each, according to news agency PTI. Brent crude prices also dropped below $100 a barrel to $95.08, strengthening the expectations of de-escalation of the war. Oil marketing companies BPCL, HPCL and Indian Oil rose 2.6% to 4.1% on softer crude prices, PTI noted. According to PTI report, India’s HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries added 1.8% each as markets opened. Larsen & Toubro also rose 3%. Budget airline IndiGo, adversely impacted by air traffic curbs, gained 4.6%. The Nifty IT index rose 2.6%, while the metal index added 2.2%. Hindalco climbed 4% and Nalco gained 2.5%, while J.P. Morgan reiterated its positive view on higher prices.
