Pant reached 2948 WTC runs in his 42nd Test, moving 31 runs clear of Gill’s tally of 2917, also accumulated in 42 matches. The left-hander scored 63 before being dismissed by Keshara Nuwantha with the first delivery of the afternoon session on Day 2 of the ongoing Test. The 28-year-old has now scored more than 2,500 runs in such conditions, overtaking Dhoni’s tally of 2,496.
