Phishing Scams: Maroc Telecom Warns Of Fake 0661 Number Offers
Casablanca – Morocco’s telecom operator Maroc Telecom has warned the public against fraudulent online offers falsely claiming to provide mobile plans and free phone numbers beginning with 0661, saying the company has no connection to such promotions circulating on the internet.
In a public notice, the operator said its only official online portal is www.iam.ma and urged customers to exercise extreme caution before engaging with any online deal claiming to be linked to the company. It also reminded users to systematically verify the source of any offer before clicking, signing up, or sharing details.
The company stressed that personal information and banking data should never be entered on a website unless users have first made sure the platform is legitimate and secure. It said customer security and data protection remain a priority and advised anyone in doubt to rely only on its official website or visit one of its commercial agencies.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Justice also issued a fraud alert over a fake traffic fines payment website circulated by SMS, in which recipients were misled with false claims about possible fine exemptions. Authorities said the website was not affiliated with the ministry and urged citizens to rely only on the official fines portal.
The two warnings, issued within days of each other, reflect growing concern over increasingly convincing phishing attempts using the names of trusted institutions. Both Maroc Telecom and the Justice Ministry called on the public to stay vigilant and avoid sharing personal or financial information on suspicious websites.
