A dramatic new picture shows US President Donald Trump watching back Saturday's White House shooting along with his Cabinet. Trump called called for people to "recommit with their hearts in resolving our differences peacefully” in the wake of the attack on Saturday. Official White House photographer Daniel Torok shared the picture today on his Instagram account. Gunshots rang out during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on Saturday at the Washington Hilton hotel. At around 8.35pm local time the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Allen, stormed the glitzy annual dinner event, rushing past security. Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance were among those ushered to safety off the stage after shots were fired. One officer was shot but the bullet was stopped by a bulletproof vest. The image published on social media shows Trump watching back CCTV footage of the incident in the Oval Office at 10.15pm. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio can also be seen crowding around a phone as the security footage is replayed. The post is captioned: "LAST NIGHT: 'In light of this evening’s events, I ask that all Americans recommit with their hearts in resolving our differences peacefully.' - President Donald J. Trump "The President and Cabinet members watch the CCTV footage of the White House Correspondents' Dinner from the Oval Office at 10:15pm, April 25, 2026." The suspect Cole Allen allegedly rushed a security point while armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives. Authorities believe he fired one or two times before being detained as he headed towards the ballroom. The alleged attacker was tackled to the ground and taken into custody as he headed for the room in which Trump was preparing to make his speech. After secret service agents evacuated the President, his wife and others from the scene, Trump posted on Truth Social to confirm the suspect had been "apprehended". He praised law enforcement officials for acting "quickly and bravely" adding that he "wasn't worried" during the shooting. Video footage later shared by Trump showed the suspect running through a metal scanner outside the ballroom as he rushed past security staff. In the ballroom, guests dived under tables as Secret Service agents raced to protect the President, First Lady and other members of the administration. Trump was rushed off stage, appearing to trip and fall down amid the chaos of the incident, while his Vice President JD Vance was grabbed by the jacket and dragged to safety.
