With the Women’s World Cup taking place in Brazil next year, the Sweden captain, who has over 200 caps for her country, will be hoping to regain fitness in time to compete. Asllani played a key role in leading London City to WSL 2 success in 2024-25 before scoring two goals and providing three assists in 19 top-flight appearances last season. She is a fan-favourite at the club and has been a key player during her two-year spell at London City. Meanwhile, London City Lionesses midfielder Malou Marcetto, who also suffered multiple knee ligament tears in the final WSL game of the season, is believed to have had positive progress in the start of her recovery from surgery. London City, owned by US billionaire Michele Kang, is run independently and not affiliated with a men's team.They finished sixth in their debut campaign in the Women’s Super League in 2025-26 and have ambitions of competing for a Champions League qualification spot next season.
