Maeve Halligan describes gender ideology as a "fragile tower of cards" that avoids debate due to fear of losing.

Her viral speech highlights the rarity of young women discussing these issues openly.

Halligan expresses optimism about changing perspectives, believing many supporters are not inherently bad people.

Cambridge student Maeve Halligan has declared gender ideology is a “very, very fragile tower of cards”, arguing its supporters avoid debate because they know “they would lose”.

The president of the Cambridge University Society of Women was speaking to GB News after her speech on modern LGBTQ+ activism attracted millions of views online.

Ms Halligan said the speech resonated because “it's very rare that young women are seen to be talking about this”.

“I think what the speech did was normalise it… It gives people permission to say, 'I agree with that.’”

“It's scary as a young woman to speak up, because the backlash is so disproportionately awful, that's precisely why we have to do it more than ever," she said.

The Cambridge student warned that young women had become the “biggest cheerleaders” of gender politics.

“They're thinking all the time about the social currency of their views,” Ms Halligan said, adding: “They've decided what is morally righteous and virtuous, and if you miss off just one of those criteria, you're out.”

Despite this, Ms Halligan insisted she remained optimistic about changing minds.

“I don't think they're bad people… I haven't given up on them,” she said.
