Published: 06:20, 6 June 2026 | Updated: 06:20, 6 June 2026 A romantic hike turned into a rescue operation after a woman allegedly hurled 'softball sized' rocks at her date during their first get-together. Las Vegas police launched an investigation after a suspected domestic battery took place during a first date as a man claimed to have had rocks thrown at him before his date left her young child to walk alone on a trail, FOX5 reported. Rescue crews and officers rushed to the Cathedral Rock Trailhead just before 8pm on May 23, responding to a troubling call about a lost hiker. When police met with the Romeo, he told officers that his date injured her knee during the hike and became angry when he called for help.  He told officers she began screaming and tossing massive rocks, several striking his shins. The man spoke to police voluntarily and gave a statement, but officers noted he had no visible injuries. Police also said he declined medical attention.  First responders later found the woman’s young daughter walking alone on the trail, barefoot. Emergency crews later found the mother off the trail, and police said she appeared under the influence and slurred her words when speaking to officers. She was also taken to UMC for further evaluation. Following the man’s statement, police filed a report for suspected domestic battery. Child Protective Services were also alerted. Two days after the incident, Las Vegas Search and Rescue shared a Facebook post about the mission.  'On Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, around 10pm SAR personnel responded to the Cathedral Rock Trailhead to assist Mt Charleston Fire Department personnel with a rescue operation,' they wrote. 'The details advised that a female was stuck in a scree field approximately a hundred plus feet above the trail after walking off during a domestic disturbance with their significant other.' A scree field is a slope or area covered with loose rocks, gravel, and small boulders that have broken off from cliffs or mountains over time. Four officers responded and helped carry out a rope-assisted rescue through the final 100 ft of loose rock The Cathedral Rock-South Loop Trailhead is located adjacent to the Cathedral Rock Picnic Area in Kyle Canyon outside Las Vegas, Nevada The post added that crews made contact with the woman on the trail and called in additional personnel due to the steep, rocky terrain. Four officers responded and helped carry out a rope-assisted rescue through the final 100 ft of loose rock.  After firefighters treated her knee injury, the woman was placed in a stretcher and carried to the trailhead, where an ambulance was waiting.
