Lailah Rosillo, of Modesto, was on a family camping trip on July 18 when she drowned at the Fleming Meadows Lagoon at Don Pedro Reservoir, about three hours east of San Francisco, according to the now-deleted GoFundMe. Deputies with the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office have said they first received a call that afternoon reporting that a three-year-old was missing. But as deputies raced to the scene, further 911 calls came in, saying that the girl had been found unresponsive in the water, and that members of the public were desperately performing CPR to save her. When officers on a patrol boat then arrived at the scene, they took over CPR, but Rosillo could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene at around 3.30pm. An investigation into the girl's death is ongoing, Sheriff David Vasquez said at a recent Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors meeting. 'We are treating it as a homicide,' he added, according to the San Francisco Gate.  It is unclear what led authorities to believe the young girl may have been killed. 'We don’t have all of the logistics and all this information from all the people who are around there,' the sheriff announced, according to MyMotherLode.com. 'We’re still gathering that information, which is a common protocol for us to do whenever there’s a death involving a child.' In the meantime, he said, authorities are treating the case as a homicide 'until we know otherwise.' 'It really shook the pillars of this entire community,' Vasquez noted, after an online fundraiser to support Lailah's funeral and memorial expenses raised more than $13,000. Lailah was survived by an older brother and sister, as well as a baby brother, according to the family friend. 'Her parents, siblings, grandparents, and extended family are devastated and trying to cope with a loss that no family is ever prepared for,' Muro wrote. Meanwhile, Lailah's aunt, Art Martinez, called her niece's death the 'most horrible thing possible' in a public Facebook post. 'I can't even imagine the pain my sister is feeling,' Martinez added.
