Don't do it! TikTok's palm reading trend has a dark side
ALBAWABA - Many trends emerge on social media, especially TikTok, from time to time, covering a wide range of topics, including health, beauty, fashion, medical advice, and more.
However, the latest trend to dominate social media carries significant risks. The so-called "palm reading" trend has recently swept across numerous social media platforms, with users sharing photos of their palms under the pretext of revealing their future, exploring personality traits, or other related matters.
However, this seemingly simple image may conceal countless risks. Expert Roland Abi Najm warned against this practice. In a post on his VX account on Tuesday, he emphasized that "by sharing a picture of your palm, you are not simply posting an ordinary photo, but rather uploading a high-resolution biometric fingerprint to third-party servers."
This effectively means sharing biometric information commonly used to access sensitive systems such as banking applications and workplace access control systems.
Unlike passwords, this type of biometric data cannot be changed. Palm prints or fingerprints are immutable, meaning that if this data is leaked, it cannot be recovered.
Furthermore, he emphasized that this data can be used by hackers or others to bypass biometric security systems, perpetrate financial fraud, impersonate identities through verification systems, and more.
