By JOE HUTCHISON, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 15:43, 3 April 2026 | Updated: 15:49, 3 April 2026 A Nebraska father whose baby son died after being left inside a hot car when temperatures hit the high 90s was convicted of child abuse this week. Jeremy Hansen, 37, pleaded no contest after leaving his five-month-old son Remy alone in a car in the parking lot of the factory where he worked in July 2025. A judge overseeing the case accepted his plea and found him guilty, according to court papers seen by the Daily Mail.  An investigation found that the baby died of extreme heat exposure while left in a car in Hastings. Hansen was charged with negligent child abuse resulting in death.  On the day the child died the temperature in the city reached the upper 90s, while other parts of the state were also under a heat advisory warning.  The father of three is to be sentenced in June, with the maximum penalty possible being 20 years behind bars.  Court records indicate that he has asked the judge overseeing the case for a deferred judgement. If that is granted he could be handed probation.  Jeremy is seen here with his wife Tatum and their three sons. 'Remy brought never ending love, smiles, and laughter into our lives during his perfect time with us. Though only with us for five months, Remy touched many hearts deeply. 'His smile was contagious. He was loved so, so much by his big brothers and family and now we have a guardian angel in heaven. 'May God hold you close, our perfect Remy. You will always be our perfect boy, and your memory and spirit will forever live on in our hearts.' No comments have so far been submitted.
