المصدر: GB News | Source: GB NewsErika Kirk came face-to-face with the man accused of murdering her husband in a Utah courtroom on Monday as a preliminary hearing began into the killing of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.
Tyler Robinson, 23, is accused of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstructing justice and witness tampering following the fatal shooting at Utah Valley University last September.
The five-day hearing will see prosecutors attempt to persuade a judge that there is enough evidence for Robinson to stand trial, where they intend to pursue the death penalty.
Mr Robinson, who handed himself in to police the day after the shooting, has not yet entered a plea to the charges.

The founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative youth organisation, Mr Kirk had built a huge following among young right-wing Americans and maintained close ties to the Trump family.
His parents and widow were present in court on Monday, alongside Donald Trump Jr, who attended as a friend of the family.
The family issued a statement ahead of proceedings describing Charlie as "a beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father".
It added: "Every court proceeding serves as a painful reminder of his death and the loss that has irrevocably impacted our lives and the lives of his children.
"This outpouring has sustained us during the darkest days of our lives."
Erika Kirk, visibly emotional during the hearing, left the courtroom shortly after proceedings began.
At her husband's memorial service last year, she spoke of forgiveness towards the accused.

She said: "My husband, Charlie, he wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life.
"I forgive him because it was what Christ did. It is what Charlie would do."
The hearing opened with testimony from Christopher Bagley, a former Utah Valley University officer, who described discovering what he called a "sniper pad" on a rooftop overlooking the area where Kirk had been speaking.
Mr Bagley told the court he saw disturbed gravel that appeared to show impressions from two elbows and two knees, along with a mark suggesting where a firearm may have rested.
The discovery initially led him to question whether authorities had arrested the correct suspect, as he had been told the gunman was already in custody.
Prosecutors say Mr Robinson left a written confession for his roommate, who was also his romantic partner, which allegedly read : "I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it."
Defence lawyers have not addressed the alleged killer's guilt but are seeking to have the death penalty removed as a sentencing option.
Donald Trump paid tribute to Mr Kirk and his widow at the State of the Union Address in February, crediting him for the revival of faith in the US.
“I’m very proud to say that during my time in office, both the first four years, and in particular this last year, there has been a tremendous renewal in religion, faith, Christianity and belief in God,” he said.
“This is especially true among young people, and a big part of that had to do with my great friend Charlie Kirk, great guy.”
The President hailed the conservative influencer as a "martyr" for his Christian faith.
