American advertises for Scottish husband after fans swooned women during World Cup

But one American searching for the right man has turned to the back pages of a local newspaper...more than 3,500 miles away. Andrea Raymer, from Jacksonville in North Carolina, took to the pages of the Oban Times in the hunt for her dream Highland man. Having fallen in love with Scotland during a holiday and wooed by the Tartan Army during their stateside invasion, the 32-year-old singleton has urged any eligible bachelors to make contact. Her 'respectable matrimonial notice' is seeking 'correspondence with a suitable Scottish gentleman with sincere hope of a lasting attachment'. He must be of 'good character, between the ages of 30 and 45, of kind disposition and sincere intentions'. But she warned: 'Frivolous correspondence need not apply.' And if she finds Mr Right on the other side of the Atlantic to her, the notice said: 'It is her intention, upon a suitable match, to remove herself to Scotland and embrace its way of life with sincerity and enthusiasm.' The idea was sparked when a friend signed her up to receive letters that tell a fictional story, with the one she received about a woman who answers and marriage advertisement before embarking on an adventure. Miss Raymer said: 'I've been loosely following the news about the Cup and I saw in Boston how they were saying the ladies were hitting it off with the Scottish guys, and they were joking about it, and I was like I guess I could place an ad over there and see if it works out for me.' Miss Raymer told her sister Angela, 44, that she was placing the advertisement and 'she thinks it's completely crazy'. But the single woman said: 'She knows I've got a pretty hopeless romantic kind of head. I don't think she expects anything to happen at all.' 'Even if nothing came from it, I thought it would at least make for a wonderful story. At best, perhaps, I might meet someone special. 'It was definitely a leap outside my comfort zone, but I decided that life is too short not to try something unusual. 'I suppose I was looking for something more meaningful than endless swiping.' But she has already had one email reply to the advertisement, which was in the personal notices section on page 37 of this week's Oban Times. In the notice she described herself of 'modest stature, with naturally curling hair, fair complexion, and blue eyes, and is known for her gentle disposition and steady temperament'. Miss Raymer said: 'I would simply love to meet someone kind, dependable and emotionally mature – someone with a good sense of humour who enjoys the quieter things in life. 'Someone who appreciates nature, values affection and commitment, and would be just as happy spending an evening talking over a cup of tea as setting off on an adventure. 'I think many people are searching for genuine connection, and perhaps that is what this advertisement is really about. 'At its heart, it is simply a hopeful attempt to find someone with whom I could share a happy, peaceful life.' Having toured the British Isles by cruise for her 30th birthday, she fell in love with Scotland. Even its weather. The American said: 'I actually love the rain, and so I would prefer it to rain all the time. And everyone having a great accent is nice.'
