102-year-old is fighting for life after being assaulted in a pub as police arrest 56-year-old man

The centenarian suffered critical injuries during the alleged assault at The Crow's Nest in Cwmbran, South Wales, where a live band was performing.  Emergency services were called to the pub at 10.25pm on Saturday, August 1.  Gwent Police said a 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has since been released under investigation. Investigators are looking to speak to anyone who was in the pub between 10pm and 11pm on the night of the incident.  Locals said the 'lovely' but 'confused' elderly victim was a regular at the pub, which is known for hosting regular karaoke and live bands at weekends.  He was taken to Grange Hospital in nearby Llanfrechfa, where he remains in a critical condition in intensive care.  The pensioner was born in 1924, the year Ramsay MacDonald formed Britain's first Labour government while King George V was on the throne.  The centenarian suffered critical injuries following the alleged assault at The Crow's Nest in Cwbran, South Wales, where a live band was playing (the pub is pictured) Gwent Police said: 'We're appealing for witnesses following a report of an assault at The Crow's Nest pub in Cwmbran at around 10.25pm on Saturday 1 August. 'Officers attended along with crews from the Welsh Ambulance Service and a 102-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains in critical condition. 'A 56-year-old man from Llanelli was arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault and has since been released under investigation. 'Enquiries are ongoing and we are asking anyone who was in the pub between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday 1 August to contact us.' The Crow's Nest shared the police appeal, adding: 'If anyone was in the pub that night and witnessed this please get in contact with the police.'
