‘You’re living in a completely different world!’ Tom Harwood grills Labour MP on Keir Starmer leadership crisis

Tom Harwood was left incredulous after Labour MP Andrew Pakes attempted to brush aside concerns about leadership challenges against Keir Starmer and the fallout from the local elections.

In the grilling, the GB News Deputy Political Editor said it sounded as though the Government were “living in a completely different world”.

Since suffering devastating local election losses across the country, the Prime Minister has been under intense pressure to step down.

At least 93 Labour backbenchers have demanded a change of leader, with Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham as frontrunners to mount a leadership challenge.

“The clear message from deeply disappointing elections last week was that people wanted us to get on with the job and start delivering the promises we made in the manifesto,” Mr Pakes said.

Tom shot back: “A lot of people will have heard that answer and have thoughts: ‘Are you living in a completely different world?’”

“You're talking as if the government is continuing on with no hindrance at all. You're talking as if there's no challenge expected for your leader tomorrow morning.

“What world is Keir Starmer living in? Willy Wonka Britain? A world of pure imagination?”

“The message I got on the doorstep last week in Peterborough, while knocking on doors, was that people wanted us to deliver change on the cost of living, on getting waiting lists down, on fixing the NHS, on immigration, all those big issues that GB News talks about a lot of the time,” Mr Pakes insisted.

“What message they didn't send me was, it's time for the Labour Party to have its own version of musical chairs or its own internal soap opera.

“Look, we can argue about who the pilot is, but we've still got to fly the plane. And that's what the King's Speech was about, setting out the direction of travel for this government.

“I'm a Labour MP. I have confidence in my Prime Minister. I have confidence in my health secretary. I have confidence in the government.

“All of us now need to calm down and get on with the job of delivering for the British people,” he declared.
