Yellowstone star is bullied out of Broadway production of Hadestown after saying he thinks transgender rights shouldn't supersede women's rights

By EMMA RICHTER, US SENIOR NEWS REPORTER Published: 19:02, 4 August 2026 | Updated: 19:18, 4 August 2026 An actor who starred in the hit show Yellowstone has left the Broadway production of Hadestown after videos surfaced of him saying that he believes that transgender rights shouldn't supersede the rights of others.  Geno Segers was set to join the Tony Award-winning show on September 1 as Hades, the God of the underworld, according to a press release shared last week.  He was one of a group of new cast members to join the stage, but on Sunday, the show announced that its producers and Segers 'mutually agreed that Mr. Segers will no longer join the Broadway production,' The New York Times reported.  The reason for the decision was not specified, but on Monday, Segers, 49, took to his social media accounts with a lengthy apology that appeared to address the comments he's made on his stance on transgender rights.  'To all affected communities, I wish to extend my most sincere apologies to everyone impacted by my words,' the actor, who also starred in the TV series Perfect Harmony, began.  'While I never intended to inflict harm, I recognize that the impact of my statement is what matters most.  'I am fully committed to listening, educating myself, and elevating my standards. According to the outlet, they obtained them from Segers' YouTube channel, the report stated. They are no longer on his page.  In one clip, the actor said: 'I’m not against anyone living out their lives the way they want, but I am against their rights superseding the rights of other people. That’s a little bit foul.'  'I don't see transgender people becoming oppressed or being oppressed,' he added, per the clip.  He also stated: 'If I'm not doing something that gives you the idea that I might not be what I present, then that makes sense to me.  'But if you ask what my preferred pronouns are, and it's not obvious to you that I'm a he/him... surely you don't need any help.'  After news broke of Segers' departure from the Broadway show, online users appeared to be divided over the alleged reason why he was axed from the show.  'We care so much less about what you say today than a year ago. He should’ve stood his ground; but he somehow thought the leftist mob would let him be,' someone shared.  Another commented: 'Never apologize for speaking the truth.'  Hadestown was written by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin (pictured in December 2024) The production itself 'intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and Queen Persephone,' according to its website. In it, he role of Danny Trudeau Hadestown was written by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin. It is produced by four people, Maria Issacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy, according to the show's website.  The production itself 'intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and Queen Persephone,' the page read.  It is unclear who will play Segers' part now that he has left the show.  The Daily Mail contacted the show's production team for comment.  Serges played in Season one, Episode three of Yellowstone, which aired in July 2018.
