He will miss time with a bone bruise in his left elbow. Richard Rodriguez / Getty Images Share articleNew York Yankees ace Max Fried has been placed on the 15-day injured list after an imaging revealed that Fried had a bone bruise in his left elbow. There is no current timetable for his return. The team said that Fried will have follow-up imaging done on the elbow in a few weeks, or when he is asymptomatic, to determine when he can start throwing again. Alarms went off Wednesday when the Yankees pulled Fried after just 61 pitches in a 7-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. After the game, Fried said he felt like he had hyperextended his left elbow and that he felt some discomfort in the area of his triceps. Fried said he didn’t want to give a timeline on when he’d be back but added, “I’m not too worried about a super-long-term thing. If I can, I would love to be able to make my next start, but we’ll see.” Manager Aaron Boone said at that time he wasn’t “too concerned” about the injury after talking to Fried about how he felt. Fried is a major part of the Yankees’ plan to win their first World Series since 2009. But although he pitched well to start this season, he didn’t seem to be at his best. Through 10 starts, he was 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA, but his control was often shaky and he abandoned pitching from the windup to deliver exclusively from the stretch. However, he didn’t complain of any injuries before Wednesday. Last season, Fried was dynamite. He went 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA in 32 starts, finishing fourth in the American League Cy Young Award race and receiving his third All-Star nod. It was the first year of his eight-year, $218 million deal with the Yankees. The Yankees have a major reinforcement on the way. Ace Gerrit Cole is expected to return from Tommy John surgery rehab within the next couple of weeks. They welcomed back lefty Carlos Rodón (offseason elbow surgery), who made his season debut Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Cam Schlittler, Ryan Weathers and Will Warren have been varying degrees of excellent in the middle of the rotation. And although Luis Gil disappointed to start the season and was sent to Triple A, the Yankees have seen some encouraging signs in two starts from rookie Elmer Rodríguez. Spot the pattern.
