England fans could be forced to pay an eye-watering £1.7MILLION should they want to buy a ticket for the World Cup final this summer. FIFA's official resale platform has given supporters the chance to buy tickets for some games for the tournament with just a couple of months until it gets underway. With prices already high, they have continued to spiral. Some tickets for the final are priced at a ridiculous $2,299,998.85 (£1.7m) per seat. The tickets, which were a row of four behind the goal at MetLife Stadium, appeared on the platform earlier this week. FIFA does not actually set the prices of their resale tickets but they take a 15 per cent cut from the purchase fee, as well as a 15 percent resale fee from the seller, meaning that they could make £2m in commission should they be sold. A statement from the tournament’s governing body read: “Fifa has established a ticket sales and secondary market model that reflects standard ticket market practices for major sporting and entertainment events across the host countries. Fifa’s variable pricing ticketing approach aligns with industry trends across various sports and entertainment sectors, where price adaptations are made to optimise sales and attendance and ensure a fair market value for events.” This summer’s upcoming tournament has been slammed for out of control pricing when it comes to tickets and transport. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has regularly defended the pricing strategy. He said: "We have six to seven million tickets on sale and in 15 days we received 150 million ticket requests. So 10 million ticket requests every single day. It shows how powerful the World Cup is. "In the almost 100 years of the World Cup, Fifa has sold 44 million tickets in total. So, in two weeks we could have filled 300 years of World Cups. Imagine that. This is absolutely crazy." He added: "What's crucial is that the revenues that are generated from this are going back to the game all over the world . Without Fifa there would be no football in 150 countries in the world. There is football because, and thanks to, these revenues we generate with, and from, the World Cup which we reinvest all over the world."
