Woman suffers brain injuries after falling from balcony to escape 'gang rape'

A young woman has reportedly suffered catastrophic brain injuries after falling from a balcony while allegedly trying to escape being raped by a group of men. The victim is said to have fallen from the second floor of an apartment building in Germany while trying to flee the five unidentified suspects, according to Bild. Local police have confirmed an investigation is underway. Police, paramedics and the fire department raced to the building on Senftenberger Straße at 3:15am on Tuesday. The woman had reportedly been helped back inside her apartment by the five men. Due to the severity of her injuries, an emergency physician vehicle was deployed before the woman was rushed to hospital. Doctors said the victim had suffered traumatic brain injuries. She is continuing to receive treatment. Police sources confirmed to Bild that a possible sexual offence had occurred inside the apartment and was being investigated. Officers have carried out searches at the property as part of their investigation. Forensic inspectors collected samples from the scene on Wednesday, but police have not ruled out the possibility that the suspected perpetrators could have made attempts to destroy existing evidence.
