Woman killed when umbrella blows into her at restaurant1 hour agoShareSaveAdd as preferred on GoogleSareen HabeshianCBSGetty ImagesA 56-year-old woman died after being struck in the neck by a table umbrella dislodged by wind at a South Carolina restaurant.The woman was dining on the patio of Driftwood Grill in Summerton on 23 May with her husband when a strong and sudden wind blew the umbrella from the table, hitting her head and neck, according to the Clarendon County Coroner's Office.First responders found the woman - identified as Dana Winger of Huger -unresponsive with a cut and were not able to revive her."Our hearts are with the family, friends, and loved ones affected by the tragic incident during last night's sudden severe weather event at Lake Marion," the Driftwood Grill said in a post on Facebook."This has deeply affected many people in our community, including guests, staff, first responders, and everyone involved," the statement posted on Sunday continued. "Out of respect for the family and those impacted, we ask for continued prayers, compassion, and privacy during this incredibly difficult time."In another post on Monday, the restaurant said a grief support team met with staff and community members following the tragic incident."Today's support session meant more than words can express to many people who have been emotionally affected by the events of that evening." The case is being investigated as an accident, Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell told the BBC.An autopsy is scheduled for 27 May, she added.The BBC has contacted the restaurant and the Clarendon County Fire Department and Sheriff's Department.South Carolina
