Woman furious after hairdresser chopped 14in of hair 'when she asked for a trim'

An NHS worker has been left outraged after a hairstylist chopped off 14 inches of her hair - despite saying she only requesting a trim. Amanda Macintosh, 42, says she has been left "devastated" after her previously long locks, which she "loved", were removed during what she describes as a "horror story" haircut. The NHS worker, from Norwich, Norfolk, claims the hairdresser at city centre salon Crop Shop, in Castle Meadow, completely disregarded her wishes during the £20 wash, cut, and blow-dry. Rather than the inch she had requested, she claims she got the shock of her life when she spotted a "massive pile of hair on the floor" following her appointment on April 25. Manager Stuart Stott said this is the "only complaint" they have had this year. Amanda said: "I told the stylist she may think my hair needs more cut, but I specifically asked for a trim as I love my hair long. "I wanted an inch or two off - I would rather come back for numerous trims if needed. "She played around with my hair for a little bit and then took me to have it washed in a separate area. "I only realised she had cut 14 inches off after I sat back down. "I thought I was overreacting as I was anxious about having my hair cut. "I told her it looked really short, and she decided to turn the chair around so I wasn't facing the mirror anymore. "It was only when she was drying my hair that it hit me how short it was, but the stylist insisted it was still long." Ms Macintosh said she cried her eyes out after leaving the shop and rang the salon to complain "less than an hour after leaving". She says she has now been left anxious to go into work with her hair down, as it was her "comfort blanket". She said: "I don't have thousands of pounds to fix my hair". "I thought, I haven't got any more hair to cut." Amanda revealed she "rarely" visits the hairdressers, adding that her previous trim was a year ago at the very same Castle Meadow salon. She later took to Facebook to share her experience, and has since been inundated with responses from hundreds of people claiming to have had "similar" encounters at the same salon. Following the incident, the salon offered Ms Macintosh a complimentary haircut and described the whole affair as a "misunderstanding". Manager Stuart Stott said: "I don't understand why the client made no comment about it when the haircut was happening. "And I don't understand why the client waited till she got home before she commented it was too short. "She should have said something if she didn't like it during the haircut. "We aren't here to do the opposite of what people want. "The only conclusion I can come to for why she didn't say anything at the time is because she liked it at the time. "We average around 100 happy customers a day, and this is the only complaint we have had this year."
