Senior Coroner for Essex, Lincoln Brookes, suspended proceedings at the request of Essex Police so the force could continue to investigate the death.During the opening of the inquest Brookes described the case as a "truly tragic loss of life" and sent his condolences to the teenager's family.The inquest was told paramedics had been called to the family's road of Long Hide, but had not been able to save Jamie-Lea. A post-mortem examination had confirmed her death was caused by the injuries to her neck.The dog, believed to be a lurcher-cross, was seized by police, with tests being carried out to establish the precise breed.The BBC has approached Essex Police to find out if the dog has since been destroyed.A 37-year-old man from Great Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death.
