Woman arrested on suspicion of murder after woman aged in her 90s dies in a house fire

By JAMES TOZER, NORTHERN CORRESPONDENT Published: 13:50, 16 August 2026 | Updated: 13:51, 16 August 2026 A murder investigation has been launched after a woman aged in her 90s died in a house fire.  Emergency services were called to Elmgrove Road West in Hardwicke, Gloucestershire, shortly before 4am today after reports of a fire.  A woman aged in her 90s was found unconscious inside the property and later pronounced dead.  A woman in her 60s, from Gloucester, was arrested on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody for questioning.  The women knew each other and it is believed to have been an isolated incident, police said.  A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police said: 'Officers attended the scene along with crews from the fire and ambulance services.  'The property was searched and a woman in her 90s was found unconscious inside.  'Emergency services performed CPR but despite their best efforts, the woman was sadly pronounced dead.
