By LAUREN ACTON-TAYLOR, US NEWS REPORTER Published: 17:41, 1 July 2026 | Updated: 17:59, 1 July 2026 A pair of masked daredevils were spotted climbing to the very top of the Empire State Building in New York City on Wednesday. Both climbers, who appeared to be a man and woman, were seen in masks on the spire of the building, which reaches a staggering 1,454 feet. As they were seen clinging to the building's spire, the pair flew a banner which read: 'When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.' It remains unclear how they managed to scale the iconic Manhattan building. After flying the banner at around midday, one climber began to descend before heading back toward the top. The pair began to descend just after 12.30pm, before reaching a lower platform where one climber dropped down to one knee and proposed to the other. The climber appeared to say 'Yes' to the astonishing proposal, as a helicopter circling the building captured the couple embracing and they removed their mask to share a kiss. The New York City Police Department were seen reporting to the scene. This is a breaking news story.
