(Photo by Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesHeading into the 2026 offseason, many thought Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill would be a cap casualty because it would save the team $6 million in salary cap space.Instead Tranquill renegotiated the final year of his original three-year, $19 million contract, reducing his base pay from $6 million to $3.5 million and trimming his cap number by $2.5 million.During organized team activities (OTAs), Tranquill explained why he took a pay cut to remain in Kansas City.“We love it here,” Tranquill said. “You develop relationships in this league and you realize it doesn’t last forever. And so when you do have something special, I think you want to be a part of it, and I certainly love our room.
