ALBAWABA - After Tim Cook's resignation, Apple on Monday named John Ternus as its new CEO, as the American company is ready for a huge shift ‌powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

During the past period, speculations continued to emerge that Tim Cook could step down from being Apple's CEO, and that Ternus is the best choice for leading the iPhone maker.

It is worth noting that Apple will release its financial report on April 30. In after-hours trading, the company's stock price dropped by 0.5%, reaching $271.

Upon resignation announcement, Cook said, "It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as Apple's CEO. Leading such an extraordinary company is a great trust in me. I love Apple deeply, and I am truly grateful to work side by side with a group of creative, talented, and responsible colleagues. We are always committed to enriching users' lives with the best products and services."

On the other hand, Ternus said he is ready to take this mission as the new CEO of Apple. He noted, "My career at Apple has almost spanned my entire working life. I was fortunate to grow up in Steve Jobs' era and mature under Cook's guidance. Apple has changed the way people interact with the world and with each other, and I will continue to drive this mission forward."

Ternus will become the CEO on Sept. 1, succeeding Cook, who has been the chief of Apple since 2011.
