By NIKKI SCHWAB, CHIEF CAMPAIGN CORRESPONDENT Published: 20:40, 25 June 2026 | Updated: 20:40, 25 June 2026 As the country experiences World Cup fever, some of the top political figures have attended matches - with President Donald Trump slated to appear at the final and present the trophy to the winner. Trump sent Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the US men's first outing, the June 12 match against Paraguay in Los Angeles. Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom, like Rubio, a possible 2028 White House contender, was on hand at that match, which the US won 4-1. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani sported a custom New York City jersey and attended the Brazil-Morocco match held the next day. He caught the match at MetLife Stadium, which has been renamed the New York New Jersey Stadium for the duration of the games. So which of these top politicos would you attend a World Cup match with? Sound off below, and the results will be revealed in a future edition of the DC Insider newsletter. The comments below have not been moderated.
