Where double demerits will apply over the Anzac Day weekend

Australians across the country will be marking the Day of Remembrance on Saturday.  But, in New South Wales, Western Australia, and the ACT, double demerit points will be enforced from Friday until Monday over the long weekend.  The rule will apply for offences such as speeding, using a phone while driving, drink or drug driving, and not wearing a seatbelt correctly. Friday will pose a particular risk for drivers as school zone rules will still be in force.  NSW Minister for Police Yasmin Catley said earlier this week that officers would be out in force over the long weekend. 'This is a high-visibility operation, and drivers can expect to see police on highways, in regional areas and across our metropolitan road network,' she said. 'There is no excuse for speeding, using your mobile phone, or incorrectly wearing a seatbelt.  'These are not just offences, they are choices – and they could cost you your life.' This includes not wearing a seatbelt, using a phone while driving, and driving more than 20km/h over the speed limit. Those who live in Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the Northern Territory are not penalised with double demerits throughout the year.  However, authorities have still urged drivers to remain safe on the roads.   No comments have so far been submitted.
