The bartender says: “Hello Andy.” Over a quarter of a century, former Greater Manchester mayor Andrew Burnham has re-invented himself in every available shade of Labour Party opinion, from “business friendly” reformer to far-Left, stuff-the-bond-market populist. But what does the shape-shifting, would-be Labour leader really think of England? As Burnham fights to win the Makerfield by-election on the 18th June and replace beleaguered Keir Starmer as Prime Minister, an unguarded interview has come to life which should disturb everyone who cares about the English people’s right to self-govern.Speaking on film to a student in 2010, Merseyside-born Burnham goes out of his way to avoid saying he’s English. He also states that he wants to carve England into regions (the old European Union agenda) and that he supports the creation of a British football team.
