WATCH: GB News joins Piddington residents as they host protest picnic against migrant camp

Piddington residents have gathered in the local recreation ground for a "protest picnic" against the use of a derelict military site to house over 1,000 asylum seekers.

Speaking to local Ian Darby, he told reporter Dougie Beattie: "This was an opportunity for us to bring the village together. We've had 170 people, which is half our village population, come in the summer holidays, and we wanted to put this sign up for the kids.

"We had 40 kids today here, decorating it, putting their handprints up, making their own comments about what they feel about Piddington. And the real point is, this is the only asset that Piddington really has for our kids and our children and their dogs and animals to to enjoy the outside life.

"And it sits right next to the proposed site, which is literally over the line of those trees, and so the reality for us as residents, we haven't been consulted about all of this is this fundamentally could get changed if this goes ahead.

"And this is a our own little way peacefully of making our point in front of people and bringing all the people together."
