Watch as a woman chases her alleged groper from a Sydney train, as police reopen the case
By MATT JONES, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA Published: 11:07, 29 May 2026 | Updated: 11:14, 29 May 2026 A woman who chased and filmed her alleged groper off a train says she's relieved police have reopened their investigation into the incident two years on. The then 26-year-old Sydney woman got on a train at the busy Wynyard Station in November 2023 after work and started FaceTiming her mother and grandmother while seated on a single seat. While on the phone, she claimed to have felt some pressure sliding along her armpit. She dismissed it at first but the pressure persisted, so she turned around to see a stranger who she claims was trying to wriggle his fingers towards her breast. The woman claimed he backed off and apologised before fleeing the scene and moving up to the standing section near the doors. As the train approached North Strathfield Station, she followed him to the standing area and started filming him and telling fellow passengers what had just happened. 'A guy was touching my back then the side of my body…on the train just now,' she said. 'He's trying to get off the train now.' The woman filmed the man after the alleged incident as he tried to get off the train The woman then chased the man as he fled down the platform at North Strathfield Station before he got away When the doors opened, the man fled, but the Sydney woman didn't let him go and chased him off the train, asking him to confront her again. 'Please don't go, can you stay here? Like, you touched me, why are you going? You think I won't say anything?' she yelled at him as he started to run along the platform. 'Someone stop him please, someone stop him. He was touching me, someone stop him.' The man tried to get into a carriage further down as the doors were closing, but when he saw the woman also board the train again, he hopped off and ran away. The woman couldn't catch up with him, but told news.com.au that the train guards on duty weren't much help. 'The train operators didn't say anything. They just kept silent,' she said. She reported the matter to Burwood Police Station that evening but after police went through CCTV footage, she claimed they told her it was difficult to see the man's movements because his hand was covered by his bag. The case stalled, but two years on, her alleged groper may be closer to being found. An emergency contact point on a Sydney train NSW Police told Daily Mail on Friday that the case was being reopened. 'About 11pm on Friday 10 November 2023, officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command received a report that a 26-year-old woman had been assaulted by an unknown male while travelling on a train between Strathfield Train Station and North Strathfield Train Station,' a spokesperson said. 'Police have received new information, which is currently being investigated. Inquiries continue.' TikTok users praised her for pursuing the matter and trying to identify the alleged groper. 'I hope you're ok, glad you spoke up,' one person said. 'Time to have separate train compartments in Sydney and elsewhere for men and women,' another said. Earlier this month, NSW Police arrested and charged a 26-year-old man for the alleged sexual touching of a 24-year-old woman at Werrington Railway Station. He was charged with sexually touching another person without consent and was granted conditional bail to appear at Penrith Local Court on Friday, June 5. No comments have so far been submitted.
