The seats get dedicated armrests, while the space between them creates a passage to the third row. This arrangement should make access to the rearmost seats easier, while also giving second-row occupants more individual space. The additional floor area between the captain seats can also allow third-row passengers to stretch their legs more comfortably. Mahindra has retained features such as rear AC vents and dual 65W USB charging ports. The new configuration results in a 2+2+2 seating layout and could appeal particularly to buyers who prioritise second-row comfort, including chauffeur-driven customers.Feature-loaded electric SUV The addition of captain seats does not bring any major equipment changes. Higher variants of the XEV 9S continue to offer three 12.3-inch displays, ventilated front and rear seats, powered Boss Mode, a panoramic sunroof and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with 1,400W output. Other highlights include 5G connectivity, an air purifier, a 540-degree camera, digital key functionality, scheduled HVAC and a VisionX augmented-reality head-up display. Safety equipment includes Level 2+ ADAS and six airbags. The XEV 9S, which was launched in November 2025, has become Mahindra's best-selling electric model. It recorded 4,131 units in sales last month, and the addition of the six-seat version gives the SUV another differentiating factor in the growing three-row electric SUV space.No changes to battery or performance The new seating layout does not affect the XEV 9S mechanically. The electric SUV is based on Mahindra's INGLO architecture and is available with 59kWh, 70kWh and 79kWh battery packs, depending on the variant. The six-seat versions use the 70kWh and 79kWh battery options. Both are paired with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 380Nm. The 70kWh Pack Two Above develops 245bhp, while the higher-spec versions produce 286bhp. Mahindra claims a range of up to 600km with the 70kWh battery and up to 679km with the 79kWh unit. The XEV 9S also gets a five-link independent suspension setup with intelligent semi-active dampers on applicable variants, while peak DC fast-charging capability is rated at 180kW.
