Vogue male model who 'physically and mentally abused three partners' admits being in toxic relationship with one accuser but denies attacking her

Published: 14:42, 4 June 2026 | Updated: 14:47, 4 June 2026 A former Vogue male model accused of abusing three women admitted he was in a 'toxic' relationship with one of them, however denied attacking her.  Archie Soames, 30, of Westminster, displayed a pattern of behaviour in which he 'physically and mentally' abused the string of ex-partners between 2019 and 2025, Southwark Crown Court heard.  The former soldier denies 13 charges, including controlling and coercive behaviour, actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, intentional strangulation and criminal damage.  He met one of his alleged victims, Gabriella Marshall, in February 2023, who moved into his Pimlico flat later that year.  In one incident in August 2023 she described how Soames allegedly 'slapped her in the face and kicked her in the groin', before he twice 'strangled her to the point of being unable to breathe'. On a separate violent outburst the former model, who appeared in Vogue on the runway for Vivienne Westwood in 2018, allegedly smashed some of Ms Marshall's belongings, including her glasses and two laptops. Soames denied breaking any of her possessions.  Soames met Ms Marshall on Snapchat in 2023, he told the court on Thursday, while he was living in a Travelodge as he waited for housing provided by the council. He described regularly arguing with Ms Marshall, and said: 'She said she didn't feel comfortable with my mother having another key, she said that she thinks I should change the locks.' Archie Soames, 30, of Westminster, displayed a 'pattern of behaviour' in which he 'physically and mentally abused' three former partners between 2019 and 2025, jurors at Southwark Crown Court were told The ex-squaddie denied abusing his alleged victim and rather claimed he was being 'bullied' by her family, adding: 'Gabriella wanted to take control of my flat.'  According to Soames the couple had been happy in an open relationship, allowing them to see other people. He said: 'When she met me in the Travelodge I was lying in bed with four girls. She came chilling in bed'.   The court heard Soames's claims that Ms Marshall regularly took magic mushrooms, which he claimed would 'change' her to 'be so evil', adding he did not partake. He said: 'She took them multiple times...On her desk she had a stack of mushrooms. She would always have them beside her to reach. 'Many times she tried to ask me if I wanted to take them, that I should stop being a p***y. I don't believe in taking mushrooms, I never have, I never will.' Andrew Kerr, defending, asked Soames: 'On July 7 she said that you hit her for the first time and hit her with a plastic bottle. Did you hit her?'  In response to Soames's reply 'No I did not', Mr Kerr proceeded to ask whether he had 'hit her with a plastic bottle', 'poured water over her' or 'called her an ugly b***h'.  Soames denied each accusatory question, adding he 'lost count' of the number of times he and Ms Marshall argued.  He said: 'It was always new problems. It could be about mushrooms, it could be me bringing friends over, argument after argument.' Southwark Crown Court heard he made one of his victims strip naked before throwing boiling water over her The former model, who posed for ASOS alongside his brother Karl, said he struggled to get Ms Marshall to leave his flat in June 2024, yet added: 'I didn't want the police to come to my house.'  He told the court: 'She would cry, she would make me feel guilty, she would cling to me. I would end up saying you know what, ok, yes. 'The majority of the arguments were just about her leaving. I said that at some point this relationship is going to turn toxic. She doesn't want to leave. 'I had to obey her and keep quiet. It got to a point where I couldn't get her out. Sometimes I would sleep on the floor, I felt so defeated.' Prosecutor Imogen Nelson previously told the court Ms Marshall decided to leave the relationship in July 2024 after a 'final violent incident'.  Soames claimed on Thursday Ms Marshall physically assaulted him on a number occasions. He said: 'I told her that the relationship is getting toxic. When she ate mushrooms she would just change. Her eyes would be very evil trying to hit me and pull my hair, pull the back of my hair.' He continued: 'She was always attacking me. She abused me so much. I would go to sleep on my kitchen floor. I would go to my living room and cry for hours. '[Ms Marshall's family] knew I had been through a lot in my life. I've got PTSD... 'My mum and Gabriella never got on. My mum never liked her and she never liked her.' The prosecutor described last week how Soames 'punched her, causing her to fall to the floor' before kicking her with his 'work boots' from when he worked at a construction site. Jurors heard he forcibly unlocked Ms Marshall's phone to transfer £700 to himself before making 'numerous threats that he would rape, kill, and stab others.' He was arrested again following the incident but told police in a prepared statement 'he had never seen any injury on her and if she suffered any injuries he did not cause them.' The court also heard how another ex-partner of Soames, Jennifer Calliste, fled naked to a neighbour's home after he forced her to strip and threw boiling water at her.  Ms Nelson said: 'In a nutshell, it is the prosecution's case that Archie Soames is a serial abuser of women, and he subjected all three of the women to coercive and controlling behaviour.' Ms Calliste was subjected to a horrific assault on 21 May 2020, the court heard. Ms Nelson said: 'He punched her repeatedly at one stage causing her to black out. 'He smacked her with a mop handle, forced her to strip naked, and threw boiling water at her. 'She ran totally naked to her neighbours' flat into the shower to cool down the burns.' Soames was arrested but jurors were told 'at that stage Ms Calliste was not supportive with the investigation'.  The former model then met his third alleged victim, Anna Traore, on Tinder in early 2025 - but their relationship 'became abusive within two weeks'. Ms Nelson said: 'He was abusive to her both physically and verbally. 'He would call her a 'dumb b****' and throw her to the floor.' She added: 'He would make her feel worthless.' She said Soames would 'make her feel guilty' for making new acquaintances at a time when she was feeling 'lonely in London and had limited friends to rely on'. The prosecutor described a 'pattern of behaviour' in which Soames would 'shout at her, they would part ways, he would call her, and she would return.' And in a final alleged violent episode on July 10, 2025, Ms Nelson described how, after Ms Traore refused sex, Soames 'threw her belongings and broke her mobile phone'. 'The defendant would not let her leave the flat and was spitting on her face,' the prosecutor said. 'She was locked in [and in] fear for six hours and she was terrified.' Jurors were told Soames's twin brother Karl was in the living room during the incident and Ms Traore was blamed for starting an argument between them. Soames denies counts of controlling and coercive behaviour, actual bodily harm and false imprisonment against Ms Calliste and controlling and coercive behaviour, actual bodily harm, intentional strangulation, false imprisonment and two counts of causing criminal damage regarding Ms Marshall. Soames also denies controlling and coercive behaviour, false imprisonment, assault by beating and criminal damage in relation to Ms Traore. Soames has released three tracks under his own label Clon3way and the artist name 2Crashi, titled Crooks, CRY, and Letter 2 Clone. The trial continues and is expected to last two weeks.
