The FBI confirmed that the suspect is in custody, with its Washington field office leading the investigation into the shooting. US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the suspect is being preliminarily charged with two offences related to the use of a firearm and assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon. She added that additional charges are likely as authorities gather more information in what she described as a “very fluid situation.” Pirro also said the suspect is expected to be arraigned in federal district court on Monday as the legal process moves forward. Police said the suspect was armed with multiple weapons at the time of the incident, underscoring the seriousness of the security breach.
