Vincent Kompany rages at referee after PSG overcome Bayern Munich to reach Champions League final

Vincent Kompany expressed deep frustration with officiating across both matches after Bayern Munich's Champions League semi-final exit to Paris Saint-Germain.

The German giants fell 6-5 on aggregate despite Harry Kane finding the net late in the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern struggled throughout much of the evening after Ousmane Dembélé put the French side ahead within three minutes.

The match was, however, marred by controversy.

Kompany was particularly incensed by two handball incidents in Wednesday night's 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena.

PSG defender Nuno Mendes escaped a second yellow card for what appeared an intentional handball, while no penalty was given when the ball struck João Neves's arm following a clearance from teammate Vitinha.

"We have to look at some of the phases that were decided by the officials across the two games which it's never an excuse for everything but it matters," Kompany said.

"If we look at both legs probably too much went against us."

The Bayern boss also questioned why Mendes avoided dismissal, suggesting referee João Pinheiro changed his mind after realising the defender was already on a booking.

"I felt he pulled out because he realised he already gave him a yellow and he didn't want to send him off for that," the Bayern boss said.

On the Neves incident, he added: "[João Neves's] hand is in the air, it hits it.

"Because it's from his own teammate it's not a penalty. But if you look at both [situations], a little bit of common sense and it's just ridiculous."

PSG manager Luis Enrique now turns his attention to a tantalising Champions League final showdown with Arsenal, pitting him against compatriot Mikel Arteta.

The Spanish coach praised the Gunners' consistency throughout the campaign.

"It's going to be different," he said. "They have been performing the whole season at a high level, they were unbelievable."

Luis Enrique made clear his side's determination to claim back-to-back European titles.

"We want to continue making history in Paris, and to make history we need to win the second one in a row," he declared.

Enrique and Arteta actually have history together.

The duo used to be teammates during their time in the Barcelona academy. On that connection, the PSG boss added: "I appreciate Mikel Arteta!

"We used to be teammates when we were kids, he did a great job at Arsenal.

“It will be a difficult, hard game but we believe in our football style.”
