US Tells Iran to Accept Defeat as War Spreads and Oil Prices Surge
Rabat – Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate as war between Iran, Israel, and the US intensified, with growing regional and global consequences.
The United States has warned Iran to accept what it called a military defeat or face even stronger attacks. The White House said President Donald Trump is prepared to “unleash hell” if Tehran refuses to come to an agreement.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strongly condemned Iran’s recent attacks, saying they have “crossed all red lines.” Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi accused Iran of targeting energy facilities in countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, warning that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz could disrupt global oil supplies and economic growth. Still, the GCC called for a diplomatic solution and said it does not seek war with Iran.
Meanwhile, the human cost continues to rise. Iranian officials say at least 1,937 people have been killed, and more than 24,800 others injured since the conflict began. Iranian missile attacks also hit central Israel, causing injuries and damage in areas including Tel Aviv.
The conflict has also disrupted daily life inside Iran. Monitoring group NetBlocks reported that the country has been under a near-total internet blackout for 27 days, leaving it largely cut off from the global web.
At the same time, Iran has rejected a proposed US 15-point plan to end the war, describing the terms as “maximalist” and “unreasonable” and continuing to push back against negotiations as long as Israel and the US continue to strike.
Mediation efforts led by Pakistan, along with Turkiye and Egypt, are ongoing but have yet to produce a breakthrough.
The war is also shaking global markets. Oil prices have risen sharply, with Brent crude reaching around $104 per barrel. The situation raises fears of fuel shortages and economic instability worldwide.
Meanwhile, countries including China continue to call for restraint and renewed peace talks, warning that further escalation could have serious global consequences.
