The US-Israel-Iran ceasefire has entered Day 25.

Iran warned that the resumption of US attacks would be met with what it described as “long and painful strikes.” The message was paired with a pointed reminder of Tehran's influence over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical energy corridors.

With disruptions affecting maritime flow, the UAE has stepped forward, calling for the immediate and unconditional reopening of the strait.

In Washington, the debate has shifted from the battlefield to the boundaries of presidential power. As the May 1 deadline approached, tied to the 60-day war powers clock, President Donald Trump declared that hostilities had effectively “terminated” under the ceasefire. In a letter to Congress, he argued that the lack of active exchanges since the agreement resets the timeline, giving his administration more room to operate without seeking fresh authorisation.

That interpretation is far from universally accepted. Many Democrats continue to argue that the administration has overstepped its legal authority, insisting the deadline still stands regardless of the ceasefire.
