Urgent hunt for violent robber who was serving indefinite sentence in a secure hospital facility before escaping ward: Police warn 'do not approach'

By OLIVIA CHRISTIE, NEWS REPORTER Published: 19:39, 16 July 2026 | Updated: 19:40, 16 July 2026 An urgent manhunt has been launched for a violent robber who is on the run after he escaped custody while being transported to hospital.  Marwan Jumaa, 20, was serving an indefinite sentence at a secure hospital facility following his conviction for two robberies that left two women seriously injured.  He was last seen in the Radcliffe area of Greater Manchester and has been described as a threat to himself and others.  Jumaa absconded from North Manchester Hospital on Tuesday evening where he was due to receive medical treatment.  He has been described as black, of skinny build, with short dark hair, and about 5ft 10ins tall.  It is understood that Jumaa had been held at HMP Belmarsh in London prior to his sentencing.  Marwan Jumaa, 20, who is said to pose a threat to himself and others, was serving an indefinite hospital order after he was convicted of attacking two women CCTV footage has been issued of Jamaa who police say should not be approached Greater Manchester Police has issued an urgent appeal for any information on his whereabouts.  The public have been asked not to approach him but instead to call 999 immediately.  Jumaa is believed to have links to Bury, Prestwich and Crumpsall in Greater Manchester and Leeds and London.  Detective Superintendent Amber Waywell, from Greater Manchester Police, said: 'We are undertaking extensive work in our search for Jumaa, utilising all necessary resources and officers in order to return him to lawful custody. 'We have no information to suggest any intention to inflict imminent harm, but ultimately, he is a wanted and dangerous individual. 'I fully understand that this is concerning news, but I want the public to know that we are working around-the-clock to find him.  'We have officers dedicated to the search and anyone with any issues should contact their local team. 'Of course, if you believe you have seen Jumaa, or have any information, you should call 999 immediately.  'No matter how small you think the information is, it could greatly assist with our investigation.'
