Updated MLB starting pitcher rankings, with forecasts for the rest of the season

Hitters give us tiny bits of information in a drip-by-drip fashion. We learn just a little about them with every at-bat. It’s hard to actually see the signal occurring that way, however, because there’s still so much noise in what’s happening in each at-bat.Pitchers give us big bursts of information. By the end of the season, the bulkiest starting pitchers will match and even surpass hitters in terms of plate appearances affected, but the pace at which that information comes in is so different. Every fifth or sixth day, a big information dump happens. The pitchers’ part of the box score is therefore the most important part of the average box score.Advertisement
