Ukraine wants to acquire US THAAD systems — Zelensky

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Ukraine needs US THAAD missile defense systems - the same kind that are currently deployed in the Middle East, Vladimir Zelensky told reporters. In addition to THAAD, Zelensky said Kiev also hopes to receive other systems. "We want to have at our disposal the anti-ballistic systems that these countries (Middle Eastern ones - TASS) have but we do not. I am referring to THAAD and others. Such systems are not available in Europe either. It's crucial that we have them in Ukraine," the publication Obschestvennoye. Novosti quoted him as saying. Zelensky also said that Kiev is trying to obtain PAC-3 missiles for Patriot air defense systems from its partners, but this requires US approval. "We are raising this issue. It depends not only on particular countries, but also on the US. We need authorization for resale or whatever they decide to provide us with. We have already agreed on it with some parties, and they are now working with the US," he explained. Earlier, Zelensky acknowledged that Ukraine is short on Patriot air defense missiles.
