UK weather maps turn icy blue as Arctic freeze brings -3C cold snap to 14 cities

Charts from WXCharts indicate a cold weather front striking the UK in early May, bringing the potential for sub-zero conditions. Scotland's northern regions will bear the coldest temperatures, with some locations around Aberdeen and Dundee likely to experience a cold snap bringing lows between 0C and -3C at 6am on May 9. The maps indicate exceptionally cold conditions across the remainder of the country that morning, particularly in southern England, where temperatures will barely climb above freezing. England's north west will be the coldest region, with the mercury dropping to between 2C and 4C, according to the charts. A Met Office weather forecast spanning May 9 and 10 described conditions during that timeframe as likely "changeable". The complete forecast stated: "During this period, conditions will probably be fairly changeable, with low pressure systems in the vicinity of the UK. This means an increasing chance of showers or longer spells of rain, along with some strong winds at times. However, dry interludes with spells of warm sunshine are still likely, with a risk of a few short-lived early-morning fog patches."
