UK sausage and bacon supplier plunges into liquidation - in business since 1905

A UK sausage and bacon supplier that has been in business for 121 years has plunged into liquidation. Puddledub Pork & Fifeshire Bacon Company Limited, is family farm Puddledub that has been running since 1905. The business, based in West Fife , Scotland , appointed liquidators on April 15, 2026. This comes after the petition to wind up was launched on January 30, 2026. The Mitchell family farmed at Clentrie Farm since the early 1900s and the family ancestors have farmed in the area of Fife for over 300 years. Now, Callum Angus Carmichael and Michelle Elliot, both of FRP Advisory Trading Limited, have been appointed Joint Liquidators of the company. The Scottish business used traditional methods of butchery, dry-curing bacon and hand-linking every sausage. They are winners of several awards, even winning two in their last year in business. In 2025 they were crowned winner of the Best Small Butchery Business in Scotland at the Butchery Business Winners Awards and also took home a Farm Shop and Deli Retailers Award 2025. They provided products at farm shops and delis across the country, offering wholesale items. The announcement comes as the UK agricultural sector is experiencing significant financial distress. According to Famers Online more than a third of UK farms could go out of business in the next five years due to changes made to inheritance tax (IHT). As well as this fear, the current conflict has created further concern for farmers with increasing energy costs that could impact stock levels.
