UK drivers face petrol station nightmare with soaring prices - cheapest and most expensive areas for fuel

Drivers up and down the country are facing soaring petrol and diesel prices as tensions in the Middle East force up the cost of oil.

In the last week, prices have risen dramatically as oil soared back above $100 (£75), prompting experts to warn that fuel prices will rise further.

Drivers around the UK are currently paying an average of 156.19p per litre for petrol and 173.15p for diesel.

Prices have spiked since the end of February after the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran, prompting the outbreak of war.

Data from RAC Fuel Watch shows that fuel prices around the UK are rising by an average of 0.62p for petrol and 1.01p for diesel every day.

Simon Williams, head of policy at the RAC, cautioned motorists that the price of petrol could reach a new Iran war high unless tensions in the Middle East begin to ease.

Experts have also continually urged motorists to search around for the cheapest fuel in their area using price comparison apps, with estimates from the Government suggesting that drivers could save up to 6p per litre when using its Fuel Finder tool.
