UAE faces second day of Iranian missile and drone attacks since ceasefire

ALBAWABA- The United Arab Emirates faced a renewed wave of missile and drone attacks from Iran on Thursday, marking the second consecutive day of strikes since the ceasefire, amid escalating regional tensions. 

The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that its air defence systems were actively intercepting multiple incoming threats, with explosions reported in several areas as a result of aerial interceptions. 

Authorities stated that ballistic missiles and drones were launched toward Emirati territory, though no major casualties or significant infrastructure damage have been reported so far. Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and follow official safety guidance.

The latest barrage follows a large-scale assault the previous day, during which Emirati defences intercepted 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones, highlighting a sharp escalation in Iran’s military posture toward Gulf states.

The attacks are widely viewed as retaliation linked to policies associated with Donald Trump, particularly the launch of “Project Freedom,” a naval initiative aimed at securing commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has strongly opposed the initiative, viewing it as a direct challenge to its regional influence.

The incidents also underscore the UAE’s deepening strategic alignment with the United States and Israel. Emirati forces have reportedly utilised advanced air defence systems, including the Iron Dome, to counter incoming threats.

This cooperation, strengthened since the Abraham Accords, has positioned the UAE as a key partner within a broader regional security framework. US officials have reaffirmed support for the UAE, while Israeli leaders have expressed solidarity, as tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continue to intensify.
