Carrick has been keen to hand opportunities to the brightest academy talents at Carrington and his senior first-team players have tried to make them feel at home.‌Jim Thwaites is one of the youngsters who has been chosen to experience the first-team environment recently, with the 18-year-old midfielder on the bench for United's 1-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday. He has been dubbed 'Mini Beckham' by excited United fans on social media due to his impressive dead-ball delivery and has clearly caught Carrick's eye.‌Unlike his predecessor Ruben Amorim, the United interim boss has made a point of going to watch academy matches since being appointed in January. He is keen to keep open the pathway from academy to senior squad and called Thwaites, Fred Heath, Yuel Helafu and Victor Musa up for the Ireland training camp recently.‌Thwaites has been delighted by the inclusion and highlights Fernandes and Martinez as being particularly welcoming.
