Two commercial ships with US flag successfully pass the Strait of Hormuz: Trump
ALBAWABA - U.S. President Donald Trump said that two commercial ships flying the American flag successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz, amid the president's 'Project Freedom' operation to free vessels stranded in the strait.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that "two commercial ships flying the American flag have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz."
CENTCOM added in another post, "U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers are currently operating in the Arabian Gulf after transiting the Strait of Hormuz in support of Project Freedom."
It continued, "American forces are actively assisting efforts to restore transit for commercial shipping. As a first step, 2 U.S.-flagged merchant vessels have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz and are safely headed on their journey."
This comes despite Iran's IRGC warning to target any ship that attempts to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier today, the Iranian semi-official Fars news agency said that two missiles reportedly hit an American Navy vessel near Jask Island.
According to Fars, the U.S. Navy vessel was struck by two missiles after ignoring warnings by the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to stop.
On the other hand, a senior U.S. official denied to Axios that a U.S. ship was hit by Iranian missiles. Additionally, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) released a statement on X denying the claims regarding a missile attack on a U.S. Navy ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM posted on X, "TRUTH: No U.S. Navy ships have been struck. U.S. forces are supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports."
